KARITON FESTIVAL RONDALLIA

The Licab Rondalla was formed in just a few days . The scarcity of people in Licab who play stringed instruments made the search for Rondalla members a difficult one.
Never a procrastinator, Mayor Willy bought the Rondalla instruments even befor the people who’d play them had been recruited.
Recruitment started at Licab Central School. Many wished to join, but they were all inexperience. At best, they were raw talents. It could take a long period of time for them to learn to play their instruments and perform as a band. The recruiters had a dilemma. A desperate Mayor Willy struck gold when he suddenly recalled that some Licab old-timers once played in a Rondalla. On his instructions, everybody was in a frantic search for them. The whereabouts of these old-timers were simply unknown.
Until, one day from out of the blue, a former member of that Rondalla group surfaced. He was not only ready to play for the Rondalla being formed; he was willing to track down some fellows who he knows have the experience playing in a Rondalla.
The rest is history, the search that is. But, can these old timers team-up with totally inexperienced children?
The newly-recruited adults were positive they could play with the young ones. Joined they did, with no other consideration, but volunteerism and sacrifice. Their words, “from the goodness of our hearts!”
If you listen carefully to their music, you will feel the sweetness of the “bayanihan” spirit with every note they play and with every chord and string thy pluck and strum.
This combination of young and older Licabeños is still “a work in progress.” They have trained and practiced together only for four weeks-and, intermittently at that. The adult recruits had jobs and finding time to practice is a struggle. The young school children-members often have to train without the benefit of guidance from their adult counterparts.

THE KARITON FESTIVAL DANCE TROUP:“AN IRRESISTIABLE” ADD ON

When the Licab Kariton Festival was declared by the Department of Tourism and the Association of Tourism Officers of the Philippines winner of 3rd best overall municipal festival in the country, Mayor Wilfredo S. Domingo grit his teeth and proclaimed: “They haven’t seen anything yet!”
For days, he continuously agonized over the possible reason why the Kariton Festival didn’t win the first place. Finally, he accepted the fact that the Kariton Festival probably didn’t win the grand prize because it fell short of being a complete tourism package. Realizing this, he said that the solution is an easy one then and, that is to make the Kariton Festival a total tourism package, better yet,  make it a “total experience” for tourists.
How? By adding a complement cultural show to the Kariton Festival; by embellishing it with a “piece d’ resistance” component; by giving it another irresistible add-on. Yes, a dance troupe! That’s how!
That was how the Kariton Festival Dance Troupe, four best available coaches from three Licab High School were recruited. A proven, battle-tested choreographer was hired. And, the best dance talents were chosen from amongst the most experienced dancers from the three high schools I Licab. Two college students were added to strengthen the core. There was also a member picked from the out-of-school youth group. It is an all Licabeño dance talent pool.

PLENTY OF INTEREST ON 2015 GRAND REUNION OF LICABENOS

To all Licabenos:

As a result of our FB message regarding the 2015 Grand Reunion of Licabenos, we received many responses, comments and queries from kababayans living abroad.

The most asked question is when would the Grand Reunion be held. The answer is: it will be from March 22 to 28, 2015, which is the week of the 121st Founding Anniversary of Licab. The Kariton Festival, the third best municipal festival in the Philippines, and the premiere show of the Founding Anniversary celebrations, will be held on March 28.
From March 22nd to the 28th, inclusive, there will be continuous activities, shows and performances. The festivities, particularly those applicable and relating to the Grand Reunion will be on March 26-28.
We are confident, however, that all other activities will appeal to and be entertaining to everyone.
As soon as we have the complete official program of activities, we will publish same on FB.
Meanwhile, we are urging all kababayans, particularly those residing out of the country, to rally your Licabeno friends and plan your group passage to Pinas in 2015. Remember, "There is lots of love in Licab".
Let us know who will be the main person in your group that we will be contacting regarding the Grand Reunion so we could coordinate and hopefully help in preparing your homecoming.

Licab Kariton Festival is one exciting and happy event. In just a few years, it has proven to be a compelling reason for Licabeńos, from all over the world, to come home and enjoy the present Licab and reminisce the grandeur of the past.
